I want to know if any of you guys engage in home remedy when it comes to travertine cleaner opposed to the commercial products. Did any of you ever experiment with rubbing alcohol, vinegar or ammonia combinations?

you have to be careful with homemade solutions. It may ruin the stone, just my thought

According to what I have been reading online about Travertine, it's not safe to use anything acidic to clean it with, because it's a softer stone than say, granite, for example, and acidic solutions can etch the surface of the stone. All the articles I've read say to stay away from acidic solutions like ammonia, vinegar, lemon/lime/orange juice, and not to use generic kitchen or bathroom cleaning products, either. To keep the Travertine looking its best, I read that a stone cleaning solution specifically meant for soft stones like Travertine is really the best bet.
