View Full Version : New ceramic and travertine bath tile, unsanded grout problem

This unsanded grout was used around a wall mirror and on the shower walls. On the tile around the mirror it appears we didn't put enough grout in the grout lines between the travertine 1" mosaic squares as it is no longer flush in the grout lines since it cured.

Same with the grout lines between the large shower wall tiles only they also have VERY tiny cracks in them.

We have tiled a lot using sanded grout and have never had a problem going back and adding more of it to joints, but can we do that with unsanded grout? Unsanded to was suggested by the tile store due to so much of the tile being travertine. Tile has been grouted since Sun night.

It is possible to fix tile unsanded. But the main issue with is that the joint between the two tile becomes loose and sometimes the tiles can breaks without sand. So, I think it is much better if you sand the tile before flooring it.
